Carmen Cook - September 2021 Teacher of the Month
My dream of becoming an educator started many years ago! I began my path to elementary education at LSUA in 2000. But, life had other plans for me at that time. I took a break from school to raise my children and always said I would return to finish my degree once they were in school. When our youngest daughter started prek 3 I took a position at their school, St Anthony of Padua, as a teachers aide for pre-K and kindergarten. I fell in love with the job! I loved the school, the students and the atmosphere! It really gave me the desire to go back to school to finish my degree. So after a lot of weighing my options, pros and cons and a lot of prayers, I decided to take the leap and complete my degree! I went back to LSUA as an online student and completed my degree within two years! At 40 years old I walked across the stage to get my diploma! I begin my seventh year at St Anthony school this August and will be a first time second grade teacher! My motto to my students is “you can change the world!” And I feel as though that is what I am doing, one student at a time.

Robyn Lee
My name is Robyn Lee. I just finished my 8th year of teaching. I teach 7th grade ELA in Livingston Parish, where I also attended school myself as a student. I taught for 3 years at Southside Jr. High and then transferred to Live Oak Jr. High when it opened 2017-2018 school year. I have sponsored cheer at both schools, which has always been a passion of mine.
I was selected as the 2019-2020 Live Oak Jr. High Teacher of the year, which was such a great honor. Upon receiving that honor, it prompted me to go back to school and work on my Masters. I started Louisiana State University at Shreveport in February 2020 and I will graduate on May 14th with a Masters of Educational Leadership.
In my classroom I use Flexible Seating which I feel truly allows the students to feel more comfortable and encourages them to want to learn. I want my students to come in my classroom and want to learn, not feel that it is a chore. I try to promote an “open door” rapport with my students because I want them to always know I care and that I am here to help them.
I am a single mom to my 11-year old daughter, Addalyn who keeps me busy with her love of softball. I also have two fur babies, Lucy and Ross who hold a special place in my heart.
I am thankful for my parents, sisters, friends, and amazing co-workers who have always supported and encouraged me along the way. Everything I do is for my daughter to show her that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.
